Cloud migration
The cloud offers flexibility, fast scaling and pay-as-you-go pricing – but only when the migration is well prepared. We help you decide what, where and when to move, calculate the real costs including licences, and migrate with minimal impact on operations.
Where to go
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) – the widest offering for Oracle databases: Autonomous Database, Base Database Service, Exadata Database Service; bring your own licence (BYOL) or license-included,
- Microsoft Azure – including Oracle Database@Azure, where Oracle databases run on Exadata directly in Azure data centres next to your applications,
- Amazon Web Services – Amazon RDS for Oracle or your own EC2 instances,
- hybrid – production on-premises or on Oracle Database Appliance, with the standby site, test environments or backups in the cloud.
What to watch out for
- Oracle licensing in the cloud – licence counting rules differ between providers (OCI vs. Azure and AWS); the wrong instance type can raise costs,
- performance and latency – applications and databases should stay close together; we verify this in a trial run,
- security and compliance – encryption, identity management, data location and GDPR or NIS2 requirements,
- operating model – who takes care of patching, backups and monitoring after the migration.
How we work
- Assessment – inventory of databases and applications, performance profile, licences and dependencies.
- Design and TCO – target architecture, choice of services and a cost comparison with on-premises operation.
- Pilot – trial migration of a selected database and application testing.
- Migration – with minimal downtime using Oracle Zero Downtime Migration, Data Guard, GoldenGate or Data Pump, depending on size and requirements.
- Operations – monitoring, backups, performance tuning and cloud cost optimisation.
We often combine the migration with an Oracle 19c / 23ai upgrade so both are tested and carried out together.
